Audrey's Bedtime

Audrey has to go to bed... kids to get to school in the morning. I've been googling for the last twenty minutes to get the full text of what the campaign released... so far no luck.

IF the statement from CBJ contains the actual statement that she has given birth to five children, it will certainly be something we will all have to consider.

IF the statement from CBJ contains YET another utterly lame thing like "she's only been hospitalized for childbirth," I'd say it gives us absolutely nothing new... and nothing even worth talking about.

People said in comments that Dr. Gupta had something about this around a half an hour ago, but I have been watching since 10:50 or so and they haven't even mentioned it again. CNN clearly doesn't consider it very important. The "breaking news" is that McCain is holding a rally. Hmmmm.

ok... if CNN never gets back to his... can somebody post verbatim what was said on CNN? Anderson Cooper read some of the statement but I couldn't hear it clearly at the time.

Good night Audrey!

I agree that the statement is perfectly crafted to obfuscate without outright lying. It was never going to be more than that.

Someone asked a few threads back about the conference where Dr CB_J is a scheduled speaker. I have just arrived in Anchorage for that conference, which starts tomorrow. I wonder if she will even be here.

FYI, I do not plan to "confront" her if she is here. I think Palin and her minions have put her in a terrible position--she can't say anything without threatening her career. This conference is about preventing child abuse, her specialty. I value what she has chosen to do with her career I respect her.

But if anything interesting happens, I promise to report back.

Something we all will have to consider? What is your point in all this? That Sarah Palin might have lied to protect her daughter from people like you? What about Bill Clinton lying about a blow job? Why?

PLEASE STOP!

Audrey -- there is a pdf of the CBJ letter on the McCain website: www.johnmccain.com/Downloads/110308SHP.pdf
I found it through a link on the Fox News website of all things.
The timing of the release is certainly suspicious. Hopefully someone in the press will ask a few questions.

Here is the link to the document Audrey. It seems clear that Dr. CBJ is confirming that Sarah Palin was indeed pregnant with Trig:

The letter is here:

It took until the night before the election to produce that? Real credible.

You can find the letter linked from here (broken in two parts): http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/11/

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the letter seems VERY carefully worded. "This child", "his mother," etc.

The Associated Press:

WASHINGTON — Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is in excellent health, with her only hospitalization related to her five pregnancies, her family physician said in a two-page letter the campaign released hours before Election Day.

In the letter, Dr. Cathy Baldwin-Johnson, of Anchorage, Alaska, described Palin's pregnancies, including the birth of her son, Trig, earlier this year at 35 weeks. Routine prenatal testing early in the second trimester of Palin's pregnancy determined that the fetus had the chromosomal condition known as Down Syndrome. The Alaska governor and her husband, Todd, decided to go ahead with the pregnancy.

The physician also said Palin had a breast biopsy in 1992 for what turned out to be a benign lesion. Her vital signs, including blood pressure at 96 over 61 and pulse of 77, have been normal. Palin has no close relatives with major medical problems.

"She is physically fit with a regular exercise regimen," Baldwin-Johnson wrote, adding that the 44-year-old Palin takes no routine prescription medications.

Palin recently promised in a nationally televised interview that she would release her medical records. Instead, the campaign issued the two-page letter from her physician on the eve of the election.

"In summary, Gov. Palin is in excellent health and has no known health problems that would interfere with her ability to carry out the duties and obligations of vice president of the United States of America," Baldwin-Johnson concluded.

The bulk of the letter described Palin's most recent pregnancy and Trig's health.

Trig was born in good health at 35 weeks and was able to go home two days after his birth. He had minor problems with jaundice that required therapy in the hospital and at home for several days.

"At the time of his last office visit, he was growing and developing normally for a child with" Down Syndrome, the doctor said.

The campaign's decision to release a brief summary letter is consistent with what Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama did earlier this year. [Story continues regarding the other three candidates.]

I find it hard to believe that no one seems to notice the size of baby trig...he was much older than 5mos when we met him.
now he is six months two weeks, we're told, if the story holds.

when we met him he was 4months and two weeks---april 18/sept 1---not quite five months.
You carry, support, cradle a 4month old...you dont hang him down the front of you.
as we saw time and again on stage after stage.

surely people notice trig is way too big to be 6.5 months.

as for her doctors letter...pretty bogus, assuring that only more questions will come.

im one who thinks she had a tubal some years back.

Hi Audrey,

Here is "her" medical records, such as they are. Everyone will say they were modeled around Obama's I'm sure. There's more to this.

My local news just reported it and quoted from the letter that Palin has "had 4 term pregnancies (lists the dates but I don't remember) and 1 pre-term pregnancy of 35 weeks in 2008."

why does the dr emphasize trig?

the letter was to be about palin...wasnt it?

nice distraction.

I find it curious that Palin would have Dr. Cathy Baldwin-Johnson as her OB-GYN......Dr. Baldwin-Johnson
performs abortions here in Wasilla.

Audrey,

Go to this link...it is the two page health report on Sarah Palin. I don't think that her doctor would lie for her but at the same time there is no one with solid evidence indicating otherwise I guess. I also find it rather suspicious that she left Mat Su soon after she delivered Trig.

Here's a link to the medical release document.

CBJ states pretty clearly that SP had five deliveries. I still think they're lying, but the document does, on the surface, seem conclusive.

A copy of the letter is located at http://media.adn.com/smedia/2008/11/03/19/110308SHP.source.prod_affiliate.7.pdf

It seems to clearl state that Sarah Palin had 5 pregnancies and gave birth to Trig.

So Dr CB-J is confirming that she delivered this baby. And Sarah says the Dr. okayed Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, which by description was borderline malpractice. My question is this: is there any recourse (a medical review board) to hold the doctor accountable for this breach of judgment? Could this be a way to force her hand and defend her actions (or not since I, too, think that it didn't happen this way)?

CBJ could have been offered immunity or protection from lying. Anyway, let us all not forget, Bristol is going to have to show us her goods here in about two months. I will not believe it until then!

Appalled

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks..."
Why so much emphasis on Trig? He's the only Palin child mentioned by name in this letter. I agree it's pretty carefully worded, and I'm not convinced by this document at all.

In my mind there are still WAY too many inconsistencies and unanswered questions...

I don't believe Sarah is Trigs mam BUT...

She has the letter which states 5 pregnancies etc...(ok by CBJ but still).

If she gets a paternity test are people going to believe it hasn't been tampered with?

I just think that no matter how much evidence it points that Sarah is the mam then a lot of people still won't believe it.

Also someone on this site has said (very recently) and I have been saying for a while, I do not think Trig was born on 18th April. He went home straight away, he was a special needs baby. He was premature, and he didn't look tiny on the photos. I think maybe the reason he can't be found on the hospital website it maybe he was born at the mat-su hospital or maybe he was born elsewhere but not on the date they claim.

It does appear that Cathy Baldwin-Johnson signed off on Palin having a pre-term delievery at 35 weeks in 2008--Trig. I have read the letter several times. The part about "her last pregnancy" could have had details from Piper's pre-natal care, but then it does switch to "this child, Trig." I think there are some strategic phrasings, and some statements meant to answer Audrey's searching analysis--without proper prenatal screening, one can't know if the child has a heart defect--that part seemed worded expressly for this website! Baldwin-Johnson must think Palin is the second coming and that she herself is above mundane ethics concerns if she is allowing a deception to go forward. The lack of a statement raised eyebrows, but this is taking a stand. Mary g.

Look: They have turned us into people who chase down every detail and word-usage (causuists, I think we would be called)--but actually, why use the word delivery instead of birth? delivery can include other meanings... I hope someone will come forward... Mary

Atlantic Monthly columnist and blogger Andrew Sullivan, who has also been following the questionable pregnancy story and demanding that Palin release medical records, had this to say:

"Palin recently promised in a nationally televised interview that she would release her medical records. Instead, the campaign issued the two-page letter from her physician on the eve of the election.

"We have been given no actual records of the last pregnancy, or any records at all, although we are told by the elusive Dr. Catherine Baldwin-Johnson that labor was at 35 weeks - not as premature as previously believed (if you research the average weight of full term DS babies, you find, by the way, that Trig was not underweight). There is no time for any reporters to ask any questions, of course, or any time for the questions raised by the pregnancy to be aired in the press. I doubt Baldwin-Johnson will respond to further queries. Obama gave Palin a precedent for this kind of letter as a replacement for records with his equally secretive and brief doctor's note. But at least he did so well ahead of time, and has no serious questions pending about his own health history.

"The timing of the release should also surely be interpreted as a giant finger to the press. Releasing this letter one hour before polling day begins and refusing to provide any actual documentation is not an answer. We need documentation to verify the last pregnancy: the amniocentesis results with Sarah Palin's name on them, for example, would be readily available and easy to disseminate, and would help raise awareness of Down Syndrome. So why not give us something? All we have in this literally last minute letter is Baldwin-Johnson's name. We had that already."

The medical letter sent on the night before voting is definitely a red flag.

There seems to be two sections to the Baldwin-Johnson letter. The first section is personal to Baldwin-Johnson and also includes general info that she has seen Palin as a patient and that she is in good health. The first section ends with the sentence "Her visits have been related to routine women's health care and pregnancy" and then picks up again at the last paragraph before Baldwin's signature.

The second section that refers to Trig, however, seems to have been written by someone else. As other bloggers have mentioned, it is written in the 3rd person and is meant to cover up for the speculation about Trig. It could have been easily cut and pasted in before being e-mailed. There is no indication in this section that Baldwin-Johnson had anything to do with the birth of Trig- it is just medical info that might or might not refer to Palin.

Con artists have clever ways of speaking about two completely separate topics while making them seem as if they are one, to keep their audience off balance. For example, "At the time of her most recent pregnancy, Gov. Palin had no health risk factors other that her age." What was her "most recent pregnancy?" It is written so that we would assume the writer means Trig, but it could mean Piper. That is how cons double talk.

I have also thought that Trig could be 2-4 months older than what we were told.

Palin "didn't blink" at telling the world that Bristol was pregnant so I don't buy a "protecting Bristol" theory back in March where only a few Alaskans might know. I think something much worse happened such as rape/incest or Track and Levi's mom, for example that would cast a shadow over Palins ambitions for herself.

Sarah's "most recent pregnancy" could refer to another one that we wouldn't know about. Maybe Sarah had one after Piper. We wouldn't know if she had other pregnancy/ies besides those resulting in her children. Lots of women have miscarriages and/or abortions.
